Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain

Today, we started reading Tom Sawyer, one of my favorite books. The main character is Tom, a kid who I think is around my age. He is a troublemaker. He steals sugar and jam, fights with new-comers to the town, and likes to sneak out and play hooky and swimming. Tom is really good at almost getting away with stuff by hiding the evidence. His mother and father had died somehow. He now lives with his aunt. In this chapter, he went swimming and played hooky instead of going to school. He took off his shirt and sewed the button back on so it looked like he didn't swim. He got busted by Sid, his half brother. Sid showed Tom's aunt that he sewed his button back on with the wrong color of string. When he went on a walk later that day, he met a boy who was dressed nicely. They fought and Tom won. When he turned his back, the boy threw a rock at him and then Tom chased him all the way to his house where the boy hid in his room and made faces at Tom. The boy's mother came out and scolded Tom for fighting with her son.

In chapter 2, Tom had to whitewash the fence on Saturday for punishment for getting his cloths so dirty. As some boys came near him, he pretended that he liked whitewashing and that nobody else could do it like him. Tom offered the first boy a marble and a look at his sore toe. The rest of the boys were fooled. They wanted to do it since it looked like fun. Instead of being punished by whitewashing, he became rich with items. It said that if he hadn't run out of paint, he would've robbed all the boys in the neighborhood.
