Great Expectations

In chapter 7, Pip was invited to play at this old Lady's house. He didn't know the lady but he was forced to play there. When he got there, the lady was in a dark room lighted up with candles. She once said, "I haven't seen sunlight ever since you were born." Pip and this girl played cards and she teased him about calling the cards the wrong names. I think Pip was embarrassed and mad and sad when he left. At home, his sister asked him what they did there and when he didn't give a long enough answer, his sister beat him up. Then he finally said, "We ate off of gold and silver platters in a carriage and then we waved our swords in the air and shouted Hoorah!" When his sister asked where she had gotten swords, he said, "In the cuboard. I also saw pistols and pills and jam in there."

  1. Why do you think Pip lied to his sister and to Mr. Pumblechook?

Why was his sister so insistant on him telling her every detail? Who do you like better- Biddy or Estella?

  2. I think Pip lied to his sister because it said that he wasn't giving her a long enough answer so she beat him. His sister was so insistant on getting every detail because she wanted to know what Mrs.Havasham was like since nobody had seen her. I like Biddy better because she doesn't seem as mean.
