Call of the Wild 2

In pages 80-100, it talks about how Buck is starved and is forced to move on. When he is at a stopping place, he doesn't try to get up. He gets beaten with a club but pain had left Buck a long time ago. Then, a man attacks the owner to make him stop beating Buck. The owner crossed some rotten ice and about halfway across, the ice broke and all the dogs and owners drowned, except Buck, because he was taken by the man and they were on solid ground.
